Are IT Departments Dying?

Google + Solar VPS

In a recent Google + Cloud Computing community discussion post, we asked the community the following question:

This is a general question for the community:
At #CloudExpo2013 in Santa Clara, a ton of keynote sessions touched on the idea of the #Cloud killing internal IT Departments within companies of all sizes. Most presentations noted that while the Cloud is killing traditional IT Departments, at least one – three members of an existing IT team will be necessary for communication and onsite tech assistance.
Our question is this: How long do you think it will take before the traditional IT Department becomes fully decimated? How long will it take for traditional IT Departments to become legacy, sorted away in the dustbin of technological advancement?
Additional question: What amount of technological advancement and access will it take for IT Departments to become a thing of the past?
Looking forward to your answers.

The Death of the Office

Virtual Office

It’s Friday and because it’s Friday we want to talk about getting out of the office. Sure, everyone probably has some solid plans for the weekend however we can all agree on one thing, the best part of the weekend is getting out of the confines of our offices. With this in mind, we want to take this time to chat about the advent of Cloud based solutions and how they are impacting the physical office space.

Looking For Collaboration in the Cloud

Cloud storage solutions have overtaken traditional storage solutions in every format possible. From the user perspective, Dropbox has 175 million active users, Microsoft SkyDrive has 200 million active users and Google Drive has a few hundred million active users. It’s safe to say Cloud storage solutions are in their hey day.”

Workplace collaboration is something every CEO, COO and manager hopes for. Within the physical work space, collaboration between departments, coworkers and managers proves to be an integral part of conducting everyday business affairs. The basic premise is simple: individual members of a team work on a singular task to reach an overall team goal. To accomplish this goal, traditional work places require(d) employees to come into the office and work with one another with face to face interaction. Up until the mid 1990’s, getting work done as a team meant coming into the office, meeting in a conference room and hammering work out. The process was simple and straight forward. However, since the 1990’s, that process has changed from being cemented in physical face to face interaction to flexible virtual interaction taking place globally.

The Secret of the Cloud

The Cloud is Powering Data Center Energy Over Consumption

We need to get something off our chest, proverbially speaking. We are a Cloud hosting provider. We provide Windows Cloud, Linux Cloud and Cloud Apps on Demand to the market. This is not what we want to use this space for. It’s true, brand blog writing should cover and represent the brand in which the blog is being written however we are also people with real thoughts, needs, ideas. For the longest time we have watched as the Cloud market tumbled on through building greater and vaster solutions utilizing the ICT (Information Communications Technology) market. We have watched as the ICT Market (Mobile Device Market) has grown hand in hand with Cloud computing solutions. We have watched as application culture has taken over the mobile world. We have watched as Cloud based services have become more ubiquitous and cheaper to utilize for both consumers and businesses.

On the same accord, we have watched as the Cloud and ICT markets have built themselves upon a dark secret, one which no one cares to talk about. That secret is the impact of data centers on our global energy addiction.

Install Cloud Apps. Rule the Universe.

For the past few months Solar VPS has been conducting an open lab beta test accessible for all Solar VPS clients. The test, known as Cosmo’s Lab, featured a product line called SolarSystem Cloud Apps on Demand, or One Click A.I. A screen shot can be seen below:

The idea behind the laboratory test was very simple: like Google’s Beta Lab’s, we wanted to release and test a product line which we believe will have a great impact on the Cloud hosting and general marketplace. The product line is Cloud Apps on Demand. In short, SolarSystem Cloud Apps on Demand featured 260 + Cloud Applications which our clients could install with the single click of a button. Just as Softaculous acts as an auto-script installer, we built SolarSystem Cloud Apps on Demand to install the most popular and useful Cloud applications with one click. We wanted to build a solution which was dead simple to use, highly useful and extremely valuable to the marketplace.
