Automated VPS Snapshot Backups
What is a Virtuozzo Snapshot Backup?
A Virtuozzo Container snapshot backup is an exact copy of your server at the time the snapshot backup was taken, but in the form of a backup image. This is a proprietary backup image meant for restoration in the Virtuozzo environment.
Self-serve Power Panel Backups
Solar VPS allows all customer to create self-serve Virtuozzo backups, however, self-serve backups are stored on the local VPS node and are still susceptible to data loss from failure of the storage array on the local VPS hardware node. Despite this risk, self-serve backups are beneficial as they serve as an additional line of redundancy in the event of accidental data loss from user error. Self-serve backups are identical to automated snapshot backups in every way, other than they are kept on the local host and can be easily restored by the customer from within the Parallels Power Panel web based interface.
The Last Line of Defense
Automated VPS snapshot backups provide the last line of defense in the event of total hardware node failure and resulting data loss. The Solar VPS automated backup system operates directly from our network of backup nodes. Each backup node is assigned to a group of VPS hardware nodes for which it performs automated backups. These backup nodes periodically log into the front-end VPS hardware nodes and execute the same backup operations performed by the Parallels Power Panel self-serve backup solution. The backups are downloaded to the backup node and them compressed for optimal data storage. In the event of an emergency, these backups can be restored to any Virtuozzo hardware node.
How Virtuozzo Backups Can & Should Be Used
For normal backup and restoration purposes, all customers are encouraged to make regular self-serve backups of their virtual private servers in addition to making personal off-site backups of any important data residing within their virtual servers. Automated backups are meant for use in the even of a total hardware node failure only. Solar VPS does not provide customers with access to the backup network or automated backup data.
